Smart Phone Tour Evaluation


1.       Technology used in creating the smart phone tour. List all hardware and software needed to implement the project. Briefly outline how each technology was used.

HARDWARE

Camera – to take photos

Mobile phone – to access the QR reader app

Computer – to create and edit WebPages

Colour printer – to print out posters

Router & internet connection – to be able to create & edit the websites & to make QR codes

Local Area Network (LAN) –

USB – To transfer images & audio

SOFTWARE

File transfer application

Image software – resize and edit the images (cropping and adding arrows)

QR stuff website – to generate QR codes

QR reader application – to be able to

Google Docs – online collaboration tool for planning

Google Sites – hosting the websites

2.       Constraints and considerations. To make the tour a hassle free and pleasurable experience for parents, what did we need to consider when designing the tour; think of speed, usability and cost.

Lack of TIME

Internet connection speed

Needed to create a good user experience – load in around 10 seconds.

Small/compressed file format – JPEG – limit the resolution – 400 x 350

Free QR reader

Free hosting service – Google sited

I created 3 websites, but only finished one due to a lack of time & other commitments.

I also created 5 QR codes.

4.       Problems you encountered and solutions you created.

Internet connectivity – work on the project at another time

Users did not have to QR reader on their phones – instructions & assistance

500 photos to organise – sorted into folders

Collaboration & status of each website – Shared document to organise

Lack of time – edit permission given to teachers so that last minute changes could be made
